NOTHING.
Not happy with their results, they then SHOT the blade several times -- NOTHING.
Finally, they just decided to set it on fire briefly. This is a simple but great feature that makes it a whole lot easier to pull the knife with one hand. The blade was so sharp, it was able to carve a spoon, the most essential of camping necessities, in less than thirty minutes.
I think that the 140 is a good outdoorsman’s knife and would have no hesitation to carry it were I still in the military. The tang is completely covered, which is good for cold winter use as subzero temperatures, cold steel and exposed skin is a bad combination. And for those of you with a bit more time, here are more comprehensive reviews of the two knives, but first a brief presentation of the brand and the maker.
Terävä & Varusteleka
Terävä, alongside of Särmä & Jämä, is one of the sub-brands of Varusteleka and means “sharp” in Finnish.
A few details I would personally like to see tweaked, like the grind and the lack of a thumb rest, but those are really very minor requests. So regardless of whether you prefer a more traditional style, or wish to attach it to your pack or harness, you can just choose what suits your desires.

Scandinavia. Their expertise and experience made for a great collaboration, one of the best jobs for me so far! I also used it to baton pieces of wood into small pieces for use in my Solo Stove.
The 140 managed all tasks with ease and the edge did not require any touch up. Which, in turn, quickly became so popular they they are sold out more often than not.

The grip is unusally long and shaped in such a way that you basically get two grips in one; one grip near the blade, intended for fine carving, and one near the back end, intended for heavy chopping. The Varusteleka Jääkäripuukko cut through the wood like a shark cuts through an 80’s surfboard, and with only a handful of strikes, I had a cut and split piece of frozen timber.

In This Article
As someone who has spent countless hours in the Great Outdoors and served in the military conducting combat reconnaissance missions, I have come across my fair share of knives.
Again- NOTHING, except some singeing of the rubberized handle.
I also found another Youtube video from Austrian Army Veteran Joe X. In the video, Joe agressively tries to break the tip on the Terava but was unable to break it. The knife arrived two weeks later and the sheath the following week.
